Mama Jersiah : Personal Illustration & Family Memory
Client: Personal Project
Art Direction: Self-directed
Medium: Digital Illustration (Procreate)
“Mama Jersiah” is a personal digital illustration created to honor my grandmother, Jerisah (Mama Jersiah). Inspired by my first and brief visit with her before moving to Australia, the piece captures a fleeting but deeply meaningful family moment. The piece depicts a moment with me in my pink dress, my sister, my grandmother and a baby relative. The illustration depicts me in my pink dress, my sister, my grandmother and a baby relative, set among trees and greenery that evoke the atmosphere of my childhood memories.
This work explores themes of migration, memory and family connection, preserving a fragment of personal history. Though I never had the opportunity to share this illustration with Mama Jersiah or create more work for her in person before she passed, the piece serves as a tribute and keepsake, holding the emotion of that impactful visit.
